My Story

Kyle V. Matthews, aka Poetic Prezz, is a gifted writer, poet, and spoken word performer
whose powerful and passionate performances have inspired countless audiences.
Originally hailing from Queens, NY, he now resides in Union County, NJ. With over 15
years of experience, Poetic Prezz has honed his craft and shares a unique perspective on
wellness, relationships, and the black experience.
Growing up in a single-parent household, Poetic Prezz learned to value the strength and
resilience of black women who often bear the weight of multiple roles in their families.
Despite facing his own challenges, including abuse, adolescent depression, and the loss
of cherished loved ones, he draws inspiration from these experiences, living life to the
fullest and cherishing time spent with loved ones.
Poetic Prezz's unexpected love story took a turn when he met his wife, who has become
his life partner and travel companion to over 28 countries. Together, they support local
causes, connect with their community, and are proud parents of two beautiful girls.
Poetic Prezz draws inspiration from his experiences with black love and family, which
are reflected in the themes of his poetry.
With his words, Poetic Prezz creates a vivid tapestry of emotions which touches the
soul, exploring the beauty and complexity of the black experience. He sheds light on the
unique challenges faced by black communities, offering a thought-provoking
perspective on life's realities. His works are deeply personal, yet universally relatable,
exploring themes of self-discovery, resilience, and hope.
During the pandemic, Poetic Prezz turned to Instagram and YouTube to hone his craft
and launched his own clothing line featuring affirmations for the wearer and those
around them. His work has been featured in various events in the Tri-State area, and he
is currently working on an NFT project to honor black culture for Juneteenth 2023.
In addition to being an artist, Poetic Prezz is a risk management professional, loving
father, and dedicated husband. He seeks to serve in any capacity he can, leaving
